Common air conditioning faults we fix
Air conditioning fails in a fairly predictable set of ways, and most of them are cheaper to put right than people assume.
Not cooling or heating properly
The system runs but the room never gets there. Usually a dirty filter or coil choking the airflow, a failing fan, or a refrigerant leak. Those are three very different repairs, so the diagnosis matters more than the symptom.
System not turning on
Nothing at all when you hit the remote. Batteries and the isolator switch are worth ruling out first, then it is usually the control board, a capacitor, or the circuit itself.
Reduced airflow or blocked filters
Weak air out of the vents. Filters are the first thing to check and the thing most often skipped, but a blocked coil or a failing indoor fan will do the same. Restricted airflow is also what pushes the rest of the system into working too hard.
Unusual noises or vibrations
Rattles, grinding or a hum that has changed. Fan bearings, loose mounts and debris in the outdoor unit account for most of it, and a noise that is new is worth looking at while it is still just a noise.
Water leaks or drainage issues
Water dripping inside, or staining down the wall under the indoor unit. Nearly always a blocked condensate drain or a cracked tray, and it is one of the more common calls we take over summer.
Faulty thermostats
A system that will not hold a temperature, or reads the room wrong. Sometimes the thermostat itself, sometimes a sensor that has drifted, and it is worth checking before anyone talks about bigger parts.
Fan or motor issues
Indoor or outdoor fans that have stopped, slowed, or started drawing too much current. Capacitors are a common and inexpensive failure, and they are a part we carry.
Electrical faults
A system that trips the safety switch, throws an error code, or has no power at all. Your technician is a licensed electrician as well as an air conditioning technician, so the unit and the circuit both get checked.
New installations, and what a free quote covers
Most of our installation work comes from people replacing a system that has done fifteen summers and is finally past it. The rest is a room that has never had air conditioning and needs it.
A quote on a new install is free. We come out, look at the room or the house, and work out what size system it actually needs. That last part matters more than people expect. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite gets there. An oversized one short-cycles, costs more to run, and does a worse job of pulling the humidity out of the air.
The electrical work is part of the install rather than a separate line. Your technician is a licensed electrician as well as an ARCtick certified air conditioning technician, which on most jobs would mean two trades and two bookings.
Every install we do carries our own 5 year installation warranty on the workmanship. Your new unit comes with a 5 year manufacturer's warranty of its own, from the brand that made it. Repairs and servicing on an existing system carry our 12 month parts and labour warranty instead.

What does an air conditioning repair cost on the Central Coast?
We charge a service call fee for repairs and servicing, and we will tell you exactly what it is when you ring, before we come out. Parts and labour are quoted before any work starts. Quotes on new installations are separate, and those are free.
Is a quote for a new system really free?
Yes, on new installations. We come out, look at the space, work out what size system it needs, and give you a written price. No charge and no obligation. Repairs and servicing on a system you already have are different: those carry a service call fee, and we will tell you what it is on the phone.
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
Once a year for a system in regular use, and before summer is the sensible time to do it. Filters and coils that have not been cleaned in years make the system work harder for a worse result, and that shows up on the power bill every quarter.
What size air conditioner do I need?
It depends on the room size, the ceiling height, which way the windows face, and how well the place holds temperature. That is why we look at the space rather than quoting off a phone call. Getting it wrong costs you either way: too small and it runs flat out without ever getting there, too big and it short-cycles, costs more to run, and does a worse job of taking the humidity out.
Do you install ducted air conditioning?
Yes. Split systems, multi-splits, reverse cycle and ducted. If you are weighing up ducted against a few separate splits, we will give you the honest comparison for your place rather than steering you to the bigger job.
My system is not cooling. Is it out of gas?
Usually not, and this is the thing people most often get told. Air conditioning does not use up refrigerant the way a car uses fuel. It runs in a sealed circuit, so if the level is genuinely low, there is a leak somewhere and the leak is the actual fault. Topping it up without finding the leak just means paying to do it again next summer. We are ARCtick certified, which is what you need to legally handle refrigerant, so we can check it properly and tell you what is really going on.
What warranty comes with a new installation?
