Vented dryers
The traditional wall or floor mounted dryer that pushes warm damp air outside. Simple machines, and airflow is nearly always the culprit.

Common dryer faults we fix
Dryers are simpler machines than washers, which means the fault list is short and most of it is predictable.
Running but not heating
The most common dryer call we get. Usually the heating element, the thermostat, or a thermal cut-out that has tripped because the airflow was restricted.
Poor drying performance
Three cycles to dry what used to take one. Nearly always airflow: a blocked lint filter, clogged ducting or a choked condenser.
Drum not spinning
The dryer hums but the drum stays still. Usually the drive belt, the motor, or a seized roller.
Snapped or damaged drive belts
A belt that has stretched, perished or let go. On most dryers it is a straightforward replacement and a part we carry.
Faulty or worn jockey wheels
The jockey wheel keeps tension on the belt. When it wears you get a squeal first, then a belt that snaps not long after.
Worn or faulty bearings
A rumble or a grinding noise that gets louder as the drum turns. Rear drum bearings and support rollers are wear parts.
Overheating or burning smells
A dryer that smells hot, or one that stops mid-cycle, is telling you the airflow is restricted or a thermostat has failed. Worth having looked at rather than lived with.
Electrical faults
Error codes, a dryer that will not start, or one that trips the safety switch. Your technician is a licensed electrician as well as an appliance repairer, so the appliance and the circuit both get checked.
Most dryer faults come down to airflow
Dryers are simpler machines than washers, and a surprising share of the faults we see trace back to the same thing: air that cannot move.
A blocked lint filter, crushed or clogged ducting, or a choked condenser all make the dryer work harder. It runs longer, it runs hotter, and eventually a thermostat or a thermal cut-out does its job and shuts the machine down. What looks like a failed element is very often a symptom rather than the cause.
That is why we check the airflow path as well as the part that failed. Replacing an element on a dryer with a blocked vent just means replacing it again in six months.

A heat pump dryer has a sealed refrigerant circuit. Working on refrigerant legally requires ARCtick certification, and we hold it. Licence ARC AU46312.

What does a dryer repair cost on the Central Coast?
We charge a service call fee and we will tell you exactly what it is when you ring, before we come out. Parts and labour are quoted before any work starts. Because we carry elements, thermostats, belts and rollers, most dryers are sorted in one visit rather than two.
Why is my dryer running but not heating?
Usually the heating element, the thermostat, or a thermal cut-out that has tripped. The cut-out is the interesting one, because it normally trips for a reason: restricted airflow making the dryer run hotter than it should. We check both the part and the cause.
Why is my dryer taking so long to dry?
Almost always airflow. A lint filter that needs more than a quick brush, ducting that is crushed behind the machine or blocked further along, or a condenser that needs cleaning out. It is one of the cheaper faults to put right and one of the most common.
Do you repair heat pump and condenser dryers?
Both. Heat pump dryers have a sealed refrigerant circuit, and working on refrigerant requires ARCtick certification, which we hold. That is not something every appliance repairer can say, and it matters if the fault is in the heat pump rather than the electrics.
Is it worth repairing a clothes dryer or should I replace it?
Usually worth repairing. Dryers have fewer moving parts than washing machines, and elements, thermostats, belts and rollers are all inexpensive. A heat pump dryer is almost always worth fixing given what they cost to replace. Where a repair stops making sense we will say so before you spend anything.
Do you repair wall-mounted dryers?
Yes. We work on them where they hang, so nothing has to come down and go to a workshop.
