Common washing machine faults we fix
Washing machines fail in a short list of ways, and after enough of them you know which parts to have on board before you knock on the door.
No spin cycle
The call we get most. Usually the drive belt, the motor brushes, or a pump blockage stopping the drain from finishing, so the spin never starts.
Blocked pumps and no drain
Water still sitting in the drum at the end of a cycle. Nearly always a blocked pump, a clogged filter, or a kinked outlet hose. More often than not there is a coin in it.
Not heating
Washing coming out cold when it should be warm. The heating element or the thermostat, and both are parts we carry.
Snapped belts
A machine that fills and runs but the drum never turns. On a belt-driven machine that is usually exactly what it sounds like.
Faulty drum bearings
A rumble on the spin cycle that gets worse every wash. Bearings are a bigger job, so this is one where you get a straight repair or replace answer before we start.
Door gasket replacement
A perished or torn door seal, water on the laundry floor, or mould you can't scrub out. The gasket is a replaceable part, not a reason to buy a new machine.
Pressure system faults
The machine over-fills, under-fills, or won't start a cycle at all. Usually the pressure switch or a blocked pressure hose rather than anything major.
Electrical board faults
Error codes, a machine that won't respond, or one that trips the safety switch. Your technician is a licensed electrician as well as an appliance repairer, so the machine and the circuit both get checked.
Repair or replace? An honest answer
Washing machines are cheap enough that replacing one is always tempting, and often wrong. Here's roughly how we call it. You get the same answer on the phone, before anyone comes out.
Usually worth repairing
A pump, belt, element, gasket or pressure switch on a sound machine
Any good quality machine that has been reliable until now
A Bosch, Miele or Asko, which are built to be repaired
Usually not worth it
A cheaper machine well past ten years with a major fault
Drum bearings gone on a low-cost machine
A failed control board on a machine with a history behind it
Either way you get the answer before you spend anything beyond the service call fee. If it isn't worth fixing we'll say so, and tell you why, rather than quote you for a repair that doesn't make sense.

What does a washing machine repair cost on the Central Coast?
We charge a service call fee and we'll tell you exactly what it is when you ring, before we come out. Parts and labour are quoted before any work starts, so there's no surprise at the door. Because we carry the common parts, you're usually paying for one visit rather than a diagnostic trip and a return trip.
Is it worth repairing a washing machine or should I replace it?
It depends on the machine, the age and the fault. A pump, belt, element or door seal on a decent machine is almost always worth doing, and it costs a fraction of replacing it. A failed control board or drum bearings on a cheap machine well past ten years often isn't, and we'll tell you that before you spend anything.
Why won't my washing machine spin?
Usually one of three things: the drive belt, the motor brushes, or a blockage stopping the machine draining. A machine that cannot finish draining will not start its spin cycle, so a blocked pump often shows up as a spin problem rather than a drain problem.
Why won't my washing machine drain?
Nearly always a blockage rather than a failure. A blocked pump, a clogged filter, or a kinked outlet hose. Coins, hair clips and the occasional sock are the usual culprits, and it's normally a first-visit fix.
Do you repair front loaders and top loaders?
Both, plus washer dryer combos. Front loaders have more moving parts and come up more often, but we carry parts for both.
Do you take the machine away?
No. We repair it in your laundry. Nothing gets carted off to a workshop, so you are not without a machine for a fortnight waiting for it to come back.
How quickly can you get to me?
Ring us and you'll know before you hang up. We answer the phone seven days, 7am to 7pm, and repairs are booked Monday to Friday. If we can't get to you as fast as you need, we'll say so on the call.
